Overnight Camp Activities

It’s impossible to put all the fun of Camp on a page, but here’s a start!

Flagpole Devo

Flagpole Devo

Every morning begins with Flagpole Devo. The whole Camp meets to start the day with a prayer, song and scripture. This shows our campers that from sun up till sun down, we are praising God!

GROUP BIBLE

For one hour each morning, the Group Leader leads his group in a Bible lesson. Group Bible is an opportunity for campers to interact with friends from other cabins while learning from God’s word.

canteen

Canteen

Three times a day, each group will have the chance to rest, hang out and enjoy snacks together at the Canteen. Snacks and drinks at the Canteen are included in every camper’s tuition, so there is no need to send cash for snacks!

GROUP ACTIVITY

Each day at Camp has its own theme. During this hour and a half, each group will play games or participate in activities inspired by the theme of the day. Scroll down for more information about daily themes.

CABIN BIBLE

During Cabin Bible, each cabin has a 30-minute Bible lesson led by their Counselor. Campers are encouraged to participate by asking questions and sharing from their hearts in this smaller group setting.

ARTS & CRAFTS

Campers get an hour every day to get crafty in the crafts hall. Some use this time to hang around and play a guitar while others stock up on friendship bracelets. Anything goes as long as you’re getting crafty!

SWIMMING

It’s everyone’s favorite time of day, SWIM TIME! Campers get an hour in the pool every day, plus a 15 minute “Quick Dip” in the evening. Whether you spend it jumping off the diving board, riding the water slide, or just relaxing, everyone loves swim time.

THE SWING

Our swing is a great thrill ride! Hoche and Nashamie campers will have the opportunity to conquer the swing once each week during their session. Campers are hoisted over 40 feet up in the air before swinging (and screaming) through the treetops!

Horse Riding

Horse Riding

There’s no better (or more fun) way to experience God in His creation than a trail ride on horseback through the big piney woods of East Texas. Campers love this opportunity to get off the beaten path and channel their inner cowboy every week at Camp.

Quiet Time

QUIET TIME

In the late afternoon, after all the fun of the day so far, everyone in Camp stops to spend 15 minutes alone with God. The whole Camp goes quiet except for the birds and cicadas, making it a perfect time to pray, read scripture, and connect with God.

Hymn Time

HYMN TIME

Every afternoon following Quiet Time, the whole camp gathers in the Rec Hall to worship God in song. Many campers and staff consider Hymn Time their favorite part of the day. There’s something special about hundreds of young voices praising God together.

Night Devo

NIGHT DEVO

We start the day with a devotional, and we end the day with one too. At Night Devo, campers sing a few songs under the stars, hear a short scripture and devo from their Group Leader, and then each group ends the day with their “night song.”

CAMP DEER RUN CABINS

Our cabins are designed to be safe and comfortable while also remaining rustic and nature-focused. There is no air-conditioning, but overnight the cool outside air  – with the help of a fan – is nature’s own air conditioning! For a video walkthrough of our cabins, click the button below.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I register?

To register, create an account in our parent dashboard, fill out all of the enrollment information forms, and then choose the session you'd like to register for. To see a registration tutorial video, click here.

What's the difference between a one-week and two-week session?

One-week sessions run from Sunday to Friday, meaning there are four full days of Camp. Two-week sessions go from Sunday until the Friday of the next week, making twelve full days of Camp. So the biggest difference is that two-week sessions actually have triple the amount of Camp!

One-week sessions are often a great starting point for younger campers, and we pack as much fun, friendship, and worship into these shorter sessions as we can! Click here to check out the one-week session theme days and activities.

Two-week sessions include everything about one-week sessions, but with several extra highlights like Outcamping, the Hawaiian Day slip'n'slide, Killi Kapers, Mellow Night, and much more. Click here to check out the two-week session theme days and activities.

What are the age requirements?

Campers ages 5 to 8 years old are eligible for our PeeWee Day Camps (must be 5 years old by September 1, 2024 to be eligible).

Campers over the age of 9 up to incoming High School Seniors are eligible for overnight camp sessions (must be 9 years old by September 1, 2024 to be eligible).

What are the cabins like?

Our cabins are intentionally built to be rustic and minimalistic, but also safe and comfortable. There is no air conditioning in our cabins, but campers are encouraged to bring a box fan or other personal fan - this is usually plenty to keep everyone cool at night! Cabins are mostly used for changing clothes and sleeping, so in the heat of the day there is not much time spent in the cabins.

Camp Deer Run Compass

The Camp Deer Run Compass is your comprehensive guide to a session at Camp Deer Run. Inside, you’ll find everything from packing lists to mail policies to visiting hours. We strongly encourage all of our camper parents to read the Compass before their child’s session.

Camp is for Everyone

Camp Deer Run plays a vital role in the spiritual growth of our campers. It is our hope that we will never have to turn anyone away for financial reasons. We have established this camper scholarship (AKA Campership) program as a way to ensure that any family will be able to send their child to camp, regardless of their financial situation. There are eligibility requirements to apply. If you have a need, we want to help.
